InuYasha begins when a young high school girl named Kagome is thrown back in time to Feudal Japan upon being attacked by a large centipede demon. Upon her arrival, she witnesses the half-demon InuYasha pierced by an arrow and eternally pinned to a great tree. As the danger from the centipede demon increases, she finds herself with no choice but to unleash InuYasha. Upon his freedom, InuYasha slays the centipede demon, but also tries to attack Kagome. Kagome is revealed to be the reincarnation of the priestess Kikyo, the woman who sealed InuYasha to the tree in the first place. It is also made known that within her body, she harbors a sacred jewel with immense power, which InuYasha desires. However, things go awry and the jewel is shattered and spread over Japan. Kagome and InuYasha must then put aside their differences in order to find all of the pieces of the jewel before they fall into the wrong hands...
